There are just some gigs that you can't audition for. Some doors that you just can't open physically. Once you know that, you begin to see things through a whole different set of lenses.
Living in Las Vegas, everyone is an entertainer in some way. Singers, dancers, jugglers, Hula hoopers etc... There was a time when training was most important in accomplishing the priviledge of stage appearances. Today stage appearance is granted to the untalented as well as the talented - so, What is "ENTERTAINMENT"? Media now has reality shows based on less than average families. As a matter of fact, there not even families - they are a blend of community people doing there best to keep a roof over their heads, or any number of bizarre themes. Is this entertainment? My heart is wrenched by this because of the message it sends our youth. I can't even say children because they are almost NON-existant.
So, What is ENTERTAINMENT & where do we draw the line between "REALITY & SHOW" for Entertainment? Drop a comment... Funding for the Arts, and art programs in general is slowly disappearing. NAC funding was cut once again which has hit Las Vegas pretty hard. Las Vegas, the entertainment capitol of the world, and we don't even support arts education. Is someone playing a really nasty joke on us or do we have a serious problem? Several music programs have been cut in Clark county schools and even the International House of Blues program - "Blues School House" has been AXED!!! Somebody HELP!!! This is when we need the Bill Gates & Oprahs to step up. Let's start an Angel Tree for this cause - Education for our Students that includes Music & Art. This is something I really feel strongly about. Let me know where you stand.
The history of American Music really needs to be featured, showcased & Highlighted in our communities today. Music is getting lost in the constant push of technology. I believe our expansions in technology are great, they just should not cost us our culture in music. Musicians are a dying breed. Electronic sounds of sampled music is taking over and the youth today feel they are creating. I come from an era when creating was from nothing to something, not simply something to something different. We must be careful as we continue moving forward not to confuse creation with creativity or being creative. Drop a note, I would like to hear some of your comments.
